Welcoming a new baby into the world is a precious moment. Providing the right care from the start ensures a healthy beginning for your little one. Here are some important tips for new-born care:

Gently wipe the baby dry after birth; delay the first bath for at least 24 hours
Dress the baby in 1–2 layers more than an adult; keep their head covered with a soft cap
Keep the baby warm and comfortable at all times
Get your baby screened for hearing, vision, and jaundice early on
Keep the umbilical cord clean and dry; do not apply ointments or powders
Let the baby stay in the same room as the mother to strengthen bonding
Allow the baby to feed on demand—day and night
Provide daily skin-to-skin contact to build warmth and emotional connection
Always wash your hands with soap and water before touching the baby
Learn to recognise warning signs—such as poor feeding, rapid breathing, or fever—and seek medical help promptly
